It’s the holiday season which only means one thing at work – the office party. Your Christmas party is a chance for you to socialise with your colleagues outside the office, and also get to know that little piece of eye-candy that works in that other department a little better. 1. Is it worth risking your job?

A little drunken fumble may seem harmless on the night, but have you considered the implications of your actions on your career? If you could lose your job over it or be forced into a difficult position…is it really worth it?

2. Do you really think he’s hot?

Be honest with yourself, do you really fancy him or his he just more appealing to look at during your working day than spreadsheets? If you met him outside of work would he be the type of guy you’d give a second look to? If you can honestly answer yes, then maybe a little smooch under the mistletoe wouldn’t be so bad after all…

3. Who’s on top?

If one of you is the boss then organising a little store room rendezvous probably isn’t the best idea. Sleeping with your boss or a colleague you manage could end up shifting the power between you, resulting in a difficult and unprofessional relationship. If you must have an office fling, aim to choose a victim who is on the same level or in a completely different department to you.

4. Can you handle the gossip?

The office gossip will always smell a rat, so when your little tete-e-tete is discovered – are you prepared to face the rumours? If you’re easily embarrassed then I would suggest participating in some harmless flirting but try to leave it at that.
