Single Girl’s Guide To Valentine’s

single-girls-guide-to-valentines-dayValentine’s Day can be a depressing time for singletons everywhere, but why? Who wants to feel pressured into romance and be bombarded by cliches left right and centre? Not me! So check out my single girl’s guide to Valentine’s day and have yourself some fun this weekend…

Glass Half Full

Now what would you rather – sit in a crowded restaurant full of awkward couples and an overpriced menu, or have a night out with the girls in a swanky bar full of sex-starved stallions?! I know which I’d rather! Look at what you do have this Valentine’s Day, not what you don’t.

Romantic Evening For One

If all this man searching and desperation for a boyfriend has left out the most important person in your life then it’s time to take a reality check. Arm yourself with your favourite movie, ice-cream, chocolate and vibrator and you’ve got yourself the best V-Day you could wish for!

Host A Singles Party

Gather all your single girl and guy friends and the friends of your single girl and guy friends and host yourself a little singles party. All you have to do is provide the house and a few snacks – tell everyone to bring a bottle and a single friend and BAM – you’ve got yourself a singles party and hopefully from it, a little romance too…

Rent A Date

Arrange an anti-date with one of your single male friends. Do everything a typical date would include, excluding any of the romantic or sexual encounters. You’ll have loads of fun, feel good about yourself and who knows, cupid might shoot his arrow at your friendship and make it something more…

Treat Yourself

What kind of stupid crap is it that men have to buy you chocolates or flowers anyway? Don’t wait around for a man, go out and buy your own. And when anyone gushes over your newly purchased floral paradise, tell them exactly who bought them for you and why -  maybe you’ll encourage them to do the same as well.

Relegate Rom Coms

Do NOT sit in and watch romantic comedies – it’s not healthy for you. Chick flicks are fine as long as they  promote girl power and demote any form of male presence. Check out one of my favourites: ‘The First Wives Club’, starring Bette Midler and Goldie Horn – it’s fabulous. Don’t allow any kind of romantic fantasy into your head – they only exist in movies anyway…

Online Dating

Online dating sites are rife with eligible bachelors over Valentine’s Day; so pop on your PJs, make yourself a drink and start having a gander! You can chat, flirt or arrange to meet local singles from the comfort of your sofa…it’s so simple. You can take the time to get to know them over the net and on the phone before you agree to meet with them, which will save you having that awkward first date with a stranger.

Be Thankful You’re Single

We constantly think the grass is greener when it comes to relationships, when in reality – it usually isn’t. Just because love is ‘commercially’ in the air right now, don’t be fooled into thinking that all these couples around you are as loved up as they seem. Relationships take work, patience, and self-compromise and who the hell wants to do that? Be thankful you’re relationship-free and enjoy where you are right now…love will find you when it’s your turn to go through the relationship wars.
