Stephen Gately & Sudden Cardiac Death
With a record breaking 25,000 complaints to the press watchdog, Jan Moir’s Daily Mail article on Stephen Gately’s death has upset a lot of people. Millions of bloggers have heckled the notorious journalist – most accusing her of being homophobic.
Now with statements such as Gately’s death was, “more than a little sleazy” we don’t think the woman wins any prizes for being respectful, but rather than being homophobic I think she’s simply ignorant.
When Jan wrote “Healthy and fit 33-year-old men do not just climb into their pyjamas and go to sleep on the sofa, never to wake up again,” she clearly hadn’t typed ‘Sudden Cardiac Death’ into Google. 12 young people die every week from this condition, according to charity C-R-Y.
At ReallyRich.com we recently interviewed Sue Williams who lost her 16 year old son to Sudden Cardiac Death 3 years ago. He suddenly died one night with no prior symptoms, when his heart just gave up.
His death was caused by a small heart defect that could have been picked up with painless ECG or Electrocardiogram. But if left undiscovered, Sudden Cardiac Death can strike at anytime.
His mother Sue spoke to us last year for an exclusive film. (Below) She’s trying to raise money for research so please if you can, support her cause.
