How To Get A Good Night’s Sleep

Sure they say don’t eat too much cheese and you won’t get nightmares but in truth it’s a lot more complicated than that. Follow my top tips to drifting off and say goodbye to sleepless nights…

Work

I never go anywhere near work at least an hour before bed as it tends to leave my brain ticking over. Make sure your head hits the pillow free of anything job related. Watch a movie, play a game, phone a friend… anything. It’ll keep those deadlines out of your dreams and help you drift off without too much stress.

Soak

The best way to relax before bed is to take a nice long soak in the tub. It doesn’t matter if you think you have time or not… my motto is an hour in the bubbles is worth twice as more as an hour in the sheets. Turn off the lights, get some candles going, and then fall into bed… lovely.

Mattress

Getting hold of a brilliant mattress is often overlooked as fussy. I used to snigger at the people on Sunday’s trying out mattresses at department stores but sleep on one that not right for you for just a week and I don’t envy your friends the following weekend.

Count sheep

It may be the stereotype but if you’re having trouble sleeping, counting sheep really does work. The little bundles of wool really encourage your brain to start imagining and that helps you drift into your dreams a little easier. If you find it hard picturing sheep perhaps you wouldn’t struggle too hard to imagine Jude Law jumping over a fence… dressed in some shepherd gear, unshaven, flexing his muscles…. I’m drifting off right here and now :)
