Whoopi Goldberg Joins Cast Of Sister Act Musical

It’s been eighteen years since Whoopi Goldberg rocked her way onto the big screen as Sister Mary Clarence. Last night the star burst back in the habit and made her stage debut as Mother Superior in Sister Act The Musical, London – and audiences loved it!

Whoopi, now 52, joined leading lady Patina Miller and the hotness that is Simon Webb at the Palladium last night kicking off her 23 show run in London.

Box office sales have soared since it was announced last month Whoopi would be stepping into the shoes of Sheila Hancock who has played Mother Superior in the hit West End show.

Before the curtain went up last night, Goldberg admitted she was nervous: ‘It’s a big deal. It’s The Palladium and it’s London, and it’s my first stage production here that I’m in. I’ll bring my Mother Superior groove to London and it’ll be all right. I’m not Sheila and I’m not Maggie, this is an entirely different interpretation. I’m too old for Deloris as she’s being played here. She’s no longer mine, she’s Patina’s and she does her beautifully.’

If you want to catch Whoopi in the habit you better be fast, (and lucky) because she’s only performing until the end of the month and tickets are almost sold out.
