Stephen Gately Dies At 33

Boyzone band member, Stephen Gately, died unexpectedly last night while on holiday with his husband, Andrew Cowles, in Spain.

The 33-year-old singer went to sleep after a night out in Majorca but failed to wake up, the News of the World reports.

The other Boyzone members are due to fly out to the Spanish island today and front-man Ronan Keating is said to be “completely devastated”.

Louis Walsh, band manager and X-Factor judge is reported to have said: “I’m in complete shock. I was only with him on Monday at an awards ceremony. We don’t know much about what’s happened yet. I only heard after The X Factor and we will rally around each other this week. He was a great man.”

Stephen’s last post on Twitter read: “Still busy – lots going on. Focusing on finishing my book next so may be quiet here.” (October 6th 2009)

Recently Gately has been seen in the West End, playing Joseph in and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and on TV in ITV’s Dancing on Ice.
