Rihanna Finally Talks About Domestic Violence
Rihanna has finally broken her silence and spoken exclusively to Diane Sawyer on today’s on Good Morning America about her life with domestic violence. (Watch below)
The ‘Russian Roulette’ star held back the tears throughout her intimate interview, and advised young girls who face abuse to ‘eff love’ and get out. She tells Diane how she kept coming back because she loved Chris Brown but through that realises she set a very bad example for other young women. At one point Sawyer notes that, on average, women will be hit seven times before leaving. In a tragic response Rihanna corrects saying, “eight or nine actually.”
This is often hard to watch. We’re used to seeing Rihanna as a strong woman but here she admits through tears she felt embarrassed and ashmed she fell in love with someone who would hit her.
It is fantastic, however, that the star has opened up about this. So many women look up to her as a role model. We wish her every success with her forthcoming album. She should be very proud of herself for standing up to domestic violence, a topic stars are far to willing to ignore these days.
