John Mayer’s Racial Comment

john-mayer-racial-comment-twitterJohn Mayer has recently posted an apology on his Twitter feed after making a racial comment in an interview with Playboy magazine. Mayer has received a bombardment of criticism after claiming that “black people love me” and boasting he had a “n***a pass”.

After faced with the uproar, Mayer commented: “I am sorry that I used the word. And it’s such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself,” Mayer wrote on his Twitter page. “It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualise using it, because I realise that there’s no intellectualising a word that is so emotionally charged.
“I think it’s time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews,” he added. “It’s gotten out of hand and I’ve created somewhat of a monster. I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I should have never said the word and I will never say it again.”

Well it seems obvious to me that Mayer isn’t a racist and was simply making a joke. Having said that, as he says himself, there’s no intellectualising a word that’s so emotionally charged and for that I think he’s crazy-stupid. Think next time Mr Mayer…
