Why Doesn’t He Text Back?
Dear Rich,
Whilst out with my girlfriends a couple of weekends ago I was approached by a really handsome guy who asked if he could buy me a drink. At the time I said no and explained that I was here with my girls and I would feel bad for leaving them behind. He seemed completely fine with this and handed me a business card with his telephone number on it. A couple of days later I plucked up the courage to text the number to see if I could arrange a drink with him. It all started off ok and he seemed really keen however he now seems very distant and I don’t understand why he gave me his phone number in the first place – it’s so frustrating!
What should I do? Why do men do this?
Thanks In Advance,
Sadie, Sydney Australia
Dear Sadie,
I hate to say it but I think it’s a classic case of ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’. As Your Online Gay Best Friend I feel it’s my duty to be completely honest with you here and just tell you to simply stop trying to communicate with this guy. If he comes back and starts showing interest again then text him back (but make him work for it!) If not, I wouldn’t waste your energy worrying about him when there are thousands of guys out there who would consider themselves lucky that you’d want to speak to them.
As for why he gave you the business card in the first place to only then snub you neither you or I will ever know why for certain but the main reasons guys do this is because…
- He has a Girlfriend or is seeing someone he likes.
- Realised after speaking to you for a short time that you aren’t his type.
- Was looking for sex the night you met him but thought it polite to give you a business card when you turned down his drink.
These are the most likely reasons for his recent aloofness but you never know – he might surprise you still…
I also recommend you check out Sex and the City, Season 6 “Pick-A-Little, Talk-A-Little” or the 2009 Film ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’. Both are centered around this age-old predicament that men seem to face us with but it’s just comforting to know that others go through the same thing. Gay or Straight Sadie – sometimes there’s just no telling!
Best of Luck!
With Love,
Rich x
